Chopstick and Nail Riveting Hammer by Ken Bova

read through this tutorial on a method that utilizes hot forging, for those who are looking for a No-Heat method see my tutorial below.

Here’s my version, about 2″ in length I filed down the head, this is a bit of a micro hammer, my next one I will go a little longer and leave more of the nail head for weight.

Here is a 60D common nail for 18 cents found at Homer Depot

No-Heat Chopstick Hammer

I used 1/4″ x 3′ Steel Works steel rod about $3 at local hardware stores

Here is a “No-Heat” method I developed for those without a torch:

In this image I have marked the center of a 3″ rod of steel, I then center 2 marks for the thickness of the chopstick, then I use the jewelers saw to cut about 1/4 of the thickness in depth.
Transfer the saw marks to the opposite side, and begin filing with a mill bastard or bastard file, first running the file corner against either saw cut and then move from one side to the other until you have an even slot.
like so, now repeat for the opposite side
Crown the flat peen side with file then sandpaper
Now file a blunt taper to create a cross peen, then sand to soften any hard edges this peen should be about 1mm thick.
